3 Simple Ways to Declutter Your Home
Want to know an easier way to create more calm and order at home? Start with these 3 simple ideas to help your home run smoothly, and make life easier.
Time is our most precious commodity. And we all have the same 24 hours in a day. Yet, it is how we spend that time and what we do with it, especially when it comes to managing our homes, that differentiates those who can enjoy their spaces from others who might be struggling.
Simplifying your home is the most important step – before you renovate or style your spaces. You want to get the foundations right first. If your home is in chaos, it is going to be much more of a challenge to make any type of improvement. You are creating more work for yourself, and you will be using up your pressure time and energy.
If you feel that you are not making progress with your home, and can’t enjoy a sense of calm and harmony in your spaces it’s time to simplify the process.
Avoid “All or Nothing”
When it comes to making improvements in our home and life it’s easy to get seduced by an all or nothing approach. But studies show that you’re more likely to get better results with small consistent improvements over time.
How does this look in your home?
Instead of trying to find an hour to overhaul a room, commit to just five minutes a day. That is manageable and you’re much more likely to follow through. And if you end up spending more time doing the task, that's a bonus.
Focus on Progress, Not Perfection
One of the biggest barriers to making progress with your home (and this applies to renovating, decorating and styling, too) is getting caught up in perfection.
When it comes to decluttering your spaces, or organising your home, if you aim for perfection, you’ll most likely fall short. Or wear yourself out.
Avoid unrealistic expectations about the standard that you want to set for yourself and your home.
Instead, focus on how you can make your home 1% better every day.
Take Responsibility
It’s so easy to point the finger at other people as the source of our problems. Certainly, if you are in a family and trying to keep your home organised there will be challenges.
But one of the best ways to ensure success is to lead by example.
You can’t expect others to take action, if you don’t.
And always check your own spaces, and if you’ve cleared your own clutter, before you ask them to clear away theirs.
