If you love a simple, pared-back Scandinavian-inspired style, you’re going to love Amanda Jane Jones’s mid-century home.
When graphic designer Amanda Jane Jones and her husband, Cree, a college professor, were planning to relocate from Chicago to Utah, a friend found them a mid-century modern home in Provo, with lots of potential.
It was a 2800-square foot (260 sq m) “fixer-upper” with Scandinavian-inspired architecture nestled in the mountains with breathtaking views.

The Renovation Journey
What began as a simple refresh evolved into a full-scale gut renovation, which had more than its fair share of challenges. Hidden structural issues, like a foundation resting on makeshift supports and beams held together with tin cans, required extensive repairs. Despite the challenges, the renovation allowed Amanda to craft a home tailored to their family’s needs, blending functionality with creativity.
A Calm and Creative Aesthetic
Amanda’s love for clean, white walls creates a serene backdrop throughout the home, acting as a canvas for colourful accents, her playful illustrations, and meaningful artwork. The space reflects her design philosophy — calm yet vibrant, practical yet inspiring. With three young children, the home has a relaxed yet playful feel thanks to clever storage solutions, like built-in cupboards and hallway cubbies.
Personal Touches and Sentimental Style
From well-loved furniture carried over from their Chicago apartment to family photos (taken in photo booths) on display in creative ways, the spaces celebrate family and connection.
Connection to Nature
The family often gathers on the back deck, enjoying Utah’s stunning natural surrounds — a new experience after years of urban living.
