Questions to Cure Clutter
Before you can style your home to make it beautiful, you have to clear away clutter. Sometimes, it’s easier said than done though. But to help you, I’m sharing 7 questions that I often ask myself when culling through my collections. I hope they help you too!
1. Do you want to hold onto the object or the memory?
Many of the objects within our homes hold special memories. But that doesn’t mean that you have to hold onto the object itself. Take a photo, and relive the memory that way.
2. What’s more important?
When everything is special, nothing is special. You have to make a choice. You cannot own everything. And you cannot hold onto everything. Instead, choose what you want to focus on. Choose what’s most important. It will help you enjoy and appreciate it even more.
3. Why are you holding onto this?
Be honest with yourself. Do you fear letting go? Do you have a scarcity or abundance mindset? Do you really need it?
4. If you haven’t used it in a year, when will you use it?
It’s all too easy to hold onto objects “just in case”. But if you have lived without it for so long, do you really need it? Take another look at all those boxes you have in storage.
5. How would you feel if you didn’t have it?
If the object disappeared, how would you feel? Relieved? It’s time to let it go. You’re holding onto it for the wrong reasons.
6. Would you buy it again?
Often we hold onto something out of a sense of guilt because we know that we’ve spent money on it. But the money has already gone. You don’t need to hold onto it.
7. Will someone else benefit more?
Instead of thinking about what you’re losing, focus on what someone else will gain. Something might not be right in your home (or wardrobe), but it could be the perfect item for someone else, and bring them a lot of joy.
I hope you find these questions helpful as you take steps toward less clutter and more calm. Ready to take things to the next level?
Decluttering and organising your home requires clarity, vision and the ability to follow through with the right systems. Without a process to follow, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed or lose momentum.
The Decluttering Masterclass can fast-track the process and save you years of living in limbo and not following through on your dreams. I have a solution that works, and I’d love to share it with you.
