7 Simple Ways to Style Your Easter Table Setting
One of my favourite things about hosting is getting to put together a festive tablescape. But if this feels overwhelming to you, or if you’re feeling pressured to go purchase all kinds of seasonal decor, I’m excited to share these simple and easy ideas with you. Truth is, you don’t have to “theme” your table settings. Instead, opt for beautiful objects that bring you joy.
Here are 7 ways to design a simple yet beautiful Easter table setting.
1. Choose a Limited Colour Palette
Start by selecting a simple colour palette for your table. In this instance, I kept to a very simple palette with shades of green and white against a neutral tablecloth. Try selecting just two colours and playing with different variations. This will keep your table feeling calm and cohesive.
Hint — If you need an oversized tablecloth for a longer table like this one, one of my favourite tips is to use a bed sheet (as shown above!) or even a painter’s drop sheet or drop cloth. Many have a similar look to linen and are easy to drape, style and of course, reuse!
2. Add Height with a Sculptural Element
Introducing an eye-catching sculptural element, such as a vase or decorative bowl, breaks up the table by creating different visual levels. These sculptural pieces also work well as a centrepiece. For this tabletop, I chose a beautiful papier-mâché bowl and vase (similar style here) and added foliage, but you could also add fresh produce or incorporate them as serveware for the meal.
3. Decorate with Seasonal Foliage
You don't need to spend money on expensive floral arrangements to create a show-stopping centrepiece. Instead, grab a pair of secateurs and venture into your garden to find something that inspires you, or grab a mix of different elements to play with, such as leaves, branches and blossoms. Arrange them in one large vase, add smaller clippings to bud vases, or scatter sprigs and leaves across the tabletop.
4. Create an Edible Centrepiece
If you need another idea for an eye-catching centrepiece, consider featuring the food itself! You can use anything you have on hand – for example, a simple serving board makes the perfect backdrop for shareable bites, festive treats, or a seasonal charcuterie spread.
5. Incorporate Natural Textures
To allow the meal to truly shine, select serveware with minimalist forms and muted, natural tones and textures. For something a little out of the ordinary, a dark glazed plate as shown above creates an interesting contrast and still blends well with the colour palette.
6. Feature Festive Glassware
Lay the table with some glassware that has an unexpected element, like these unique glasses with a shimmery copper band. You could also bring out crystal or incorporate colourful glassware for a festive touch.
7. Use the “Good Pieces”
If you have a favourite set of plates, linens, flatware or any other decorative item that brings you joy, what better time to enjoy it than now? Better for your cherished items to be appreciated and shared today than to be stashed away for some future date. Bring out all your favourites and embrace the little signs of use that are inevitable when things are loved well.
