Design Tour: A Last Look Inside Imprint House
Before I step out of the Imprint House building for one last time, I wanted to take you on a tour of what’s inside one of my most personal design projects.
This space was more than just a showroom — it was a place where I brought many ideas to life. I wanted to show that any space can be transformed, even a blank industrial unit. I wanted visitors to step through the entrance and feel transported to another world, immersed in an environment where every detail was intentional.
It was also a space to experiment — to explore materials in new and exciting ways, from the depth and texture of lime plaster to the seamless beauty of microcement, and the warmth of cork walls and flooring. And then there was colour — not as bold accents, but as subtle shifts to enhance mood and atmosphere.
In October 2023, after months of careful planning and curation, I opened the doors of Imprint House to the public. More than just a store, it became a living embodiment of considered design, housing a showroom, design studio, kitchen and bathroom — each space a reflection of the principles I hold close.
The Story Behind The Space
The journey to creating this space was one of intention — every design choice had purpose. From the tactile beauty of a timber kitchen to the enduring appeal of timeless tiles, each detail was selected to feel grounding, enduring, and quietly beautiful.

An Inviting Entrance
I wanted the entrance to invite curiosity while feeling warm and welcoming. The salvaged doors, inspired by old department stores, create a sense of arrival — an intentional pause before stepping inside. The tonal palette blends with the existing exterior, ensuring a cohesive feel. A potted olive tree helps define the entry, softening the concrete facade and bringing a natural element to the space. A small yet thoughtful moment that sets the tone for what lies beyond.
A Considered Transition
With double-height ceilings soaring 6 metres high, the showroom is expansive, almost cavernous. To create a sense of intimacy before stepping into the larger space, I looked to traditional architecture for inspiration—churches and historic department stores, where vestibules with lower ceilings offer a moment of pause before the big reveal.
This entry contrasts with the light-filled white interior beyond, grounding the space in warm brown tones that add depth and richness. The custom woven rug (part of this Seagrass Rug Collection) brings texture underfoot, while the Lume Wall Light in Olive — one of my own designs — adds a soft, inviting glow to mark the transition.
A Defining Moment
As you step through the entrance, your eye is drawn to the focal point of the showroom — an arched timber door that leads to the working heart of Imprint House, the warehouse, where wares are stored and orders are packed and shipped.
Above, a bank of salvaged windows, mirroring the entrance doors, defines the design studio office, serving both form and function — allowing light to filter into the workspace while creating a visual feature on the expansive 6-metre-high wall. Suspended in front, a trio of Cloud Linen Pendants softens the scale, visually lowering the ceiling visually, and adding a sense of intimacy to the space.
A Sculptural Statement
The customer service counter is a study in texture and materiality, featuring fluted travertine cylinder tiles that bring warmth and depth. To the left, hand-cut travertine shelves with raw, organic edges add a sense of craftsmanship and contrast with the smooth, curved backdrop behind the desk. Inspired by the traditional architecture of Puglia, where I travelled to shoot a home for my book STILL: The Slow Home, this space balances natural materials with a refined yet grounding presence.
Framed Simplicity
A trio of lime plaster cubbies was designed to showcase wares, drawing inspiration from the built-in niches found in homes across Morocco and Mallorca — places that left a lasting impression while creating my books This is Home and STILL. Their soft, organic edges echo the curved wall behind the nearby counter, adding depth and quiet refinement to the space.
A Seamless Ascent
The lime plaster staircase flows seamlessly, its curved end creating a ribbon-like effect that extends from the upper level to the ground floor. The vein-cut travertine treads add an elevated element, while colour-matched risers create a tonal effect.
Warm Timber Kitchen Tones
Designed to complement the warm tones of the mezzanine, this compact yet functional kitchen features Tasmanian oak cabinetry, brass handles, and a Daino stone marble countertop for a timeless, natural palette. Cleverly concealed within are an integrated fridge/freezer, dishwasher, and tall storage for brooms and essentials. Above, an exposed timber beam disguises a steel structure, adding warmth and cohesion to the space.
Considered Storage
To add extra storage and display space within the showroom, we installed the Koyo Shelving Unit—a piece I originally designed for my home studio. Now available through Imprint House, its simple yet refined form allows everyday wares to be beautifully showcased while remaining functional and versatile.
Custom Display
At the top of the mezzanine stairs, adjoining the kitchen, this space showcases additional wares with a custom-designed storage unit. Its adjustable open shelving allows for flexibility while maintaining a sense of lightness and airiness, preventing the space from feeling too enclosed. To enhance the cocoon-like feel, the walls and ceiling are painted in the same tonal hue, harmonising with the French lay travertine flooring for a seamless, grounding effect.
A Seamless Connection
Framing the salvaged office doors, a pair of arched shelving displays in Tasmanian oak echo the curves of the doors, creating a sense of continuity. These soft lines form a visual thread, linking the mezzanine to the arched timber doors below, reinforcing the showroom’s cohesive and considered design.
A Workspace in Warmth
The design studio is enveloped in cork, with both the walls and ceiling serving a dual purpose—providing a tactile surface for inspiration while enhancing warmth and sound insulation. Underfoot, the light-toned cork flooringblends seamlessly with the travertine tiles in the adjoining mezzanine kitchen, creating a natural and cohesive flow between spaces.
Floor-to-ceiling sheer curtains allow natural light to filter gently into the studio while providing privacy for client and team meetings. This balance of openness and enclosure enhances the workspace, creating a serene and focused environment.
A Workspace for Creativity
A floating desk spans one wall of the design studio, providing ample seating for the team while doubling as a display area for prototypes and design samples. Thoughtfully integrated, a hidden flap at the back conceals power points, maintaining a clean and uncluttered workspace.
Maximising Space
Slimline shelving provides a practical yet refined way to display books, samples, or artwork, making the most of available space within the workspace and design studio. Thoughtfully positioned, it keeps essential references within reach while maintaining a clean and considered aesthetic.
A Thoughtful Transformation
Tucked into the back corner of the downstairs area, the bathroom was completely refreshed while keeping the existing plumbing intact. Microcement was applied over the original tiles, seamlessly updating the space, while brass tapware replaced dated fittings. A travertine sink sourced from Turkey serves as a focal point, bringing warmth and natural texture to this cocoon-like retreat.
A Soft & Seamless Refresh
Microcement transformed this once-dated bathroom, applied directly over existing tiles for a seamless, textural finish. A nib wall was introduced to incorporate a shower niche while discreetly screening off the toilet. Brass tapware enhances the tonal warmth.
A Clever Concealment
One of my favourite features—and one of the trickiest to resolve—was finding a way to conceal the unsightly roller door when rolled up. I often find that design challenges spark the most creative solutions.
To hide it, we enclosed it within a bulkhead, seamlessly integrating it into the architecture. Over the top, we built an arched wall, referencing the other curves in the space. Clad in travertine tile, it draws inspiration from the stone-arched ceilings of Puglia, a place that left a lasting impression while creating my book STILL. This detail not only serves a functional purpose but also enhances the Mediterranean feel woven throughout the design.
Stepping Into a New Chapter
As I walk through this space one last time, I’m reminded of the countless moments that made it what it is — conversations, collaborations, and the joy of bringing a vision to life.
This design tour isn’t just about the space itself but about everything it represents: the power of thoughtful design, the beauty of transformation, and the way spaces shape how we feel and live.
While this marks a last look inside Imprint House, the journey of design and creativity never truly ends. It evolves, transforms, and finds new ways to inspire.
Thank you for being part of this chapter with me.
